Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Nothing dates a home like a popcorn ceiling. Removing it is messy, technical work — but with full containment, proper skim coating and fresh paint, the result makes every room look taller, brighter and a decade newer.

Overview

Our removal process protects your home first: floors, walls and fixtures are sealed in plastic, vents are masked, and the texture is scraped wet to control dust. We then skim-coat the entire ceiling to a smooth Level 5 finish, sand, prime and paint — a true flat ceiling, not a scraped one with shadows and gouges.

It's also the perfect moment to add pot lights: with the ceiling already open and being refinished, wiring and trimming LED pot lights costs a fraction of doing it later. Many clients pair removal with new lighting throughout the main floor.

Our process

How the project runs

  1. 01

    Assessment

We confirm ceiling condition and whether the texture is painted (which changes the removal method), and scope any lighting additions.

  2. 02

    Protection

Floors, walls, fixtures and openings sealed with plastic and tape before any scraping starts.

  3. 03

    Removal

Texture is wet-scraped down to the drywall; damaged seams and screw pops are repaired.

  4. 04

    Skim & sand

Full skim coat applied and sanded to a Level 5 smooth finish.

  5. 05

    Prime & paint

Stain-blocking primer and two coats of ceiling paint; pot lights trimmed and tested if added.
